The second episode of President Curtis is a step down from the premiere. It's still entertaining enough that I'll probably keep watching out of curiosity, but the series is already trending in the wrong direction.
My biggest issue was the violence. The gore felt excessive and didn't add much—it actually distracted from the parts of the episode that worked. If the show dialed that back, I think the rest would have a much better chance to shine.
The writing also started to feel repetitive. The running gag with the annoyed Coast Guard officer was funny the first time, but by the third repetition it came across as lazy rather than clever.
On the positive side, the production values are still impressive. The show looks expensive, and there are some genuinely interesting ideas. What surprised me was how much it leaned into the supernatural rather than science fiction. Characters like Amelia Earhart and other legendary figures are presented as supernatural truths instead of getting some sci-fi explanation, which makes the show's world feel less consistent. The episode also undermines its own setup by saying Amelia Earhart can't land early on, only to have her land at the end without any explanation.
There's enough here to keep me watching for now, but I hope future episodes cut back on the gore, stop relying on repeated jokes, and tighten up the internal logic of the story.
