I’m realizing now that Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is connected to The Big Bang Theory, which probably explains the high production value and built-in audience. I never watched The Big Bang Theory, though, and that may be part of why this doesn’t do much for me.
I actually like the basic idea of traveling through different universes, and the show looks great. But the sci-fi itself feels pretty shallow, and I don’t find the characters particularly interesting or likable. The biggest problem for me in this episode was the universe where nobody can get mad at each other. That could have been a really fun premise to explore, but after establishing it, the episode mostly just kept recycling the same lowbrow joke over and over without doing anything especially creative with the idea.
Maybe this works better if you already know and love these characters from The Big Bang Theory, but coming to it without that connection, I found it cheesy, dumb, and mostly unfunny. It looks expensive and polished, but there isn't much underneath that production value that keeps me interested.
