Summary — Fun enough to watch, but the cheap crass humor and weaker writing made it feel like a noticeable step down from the original.
I had pretty high expectations going into Zootopia 2 because I loved the first movie, and I think that ended up hurting this one a bit for me. The story was fine and it was generally fun to watch, but as a whole it just never really landed.
The biggest issue was the humor. A lot of the jokes felt really cheap and overly crass, with a bunch of low-effort slapstick that reminded me of “car crashes into wall” type comedy instead of the smarter humor the first movie balanced so well. The characters themselves were still solid, and nothing was outright terrible, but the movie felt like it was aiming lower creatively.
I didn’t hate it, but compared to the original it felt like a noticeable step down and more forgettable overall.
