Strong Start, Familiar Horror

Summary — An intriguing setup gives way to a body horror story that wasn't really my style.

I went into this expecting something closer to the classic Mummy adventure films because I hadn't watched any trailers, so the heavy body horror caught me off guard. That's on me more than the movie.

It starts off with an interesting premise, but it lost me as it leaned further into graphic horror. That style just isn't for me. The central idea also felt very familiar—the curse that can only be passed on to someone else reminded me a lot of The Ring. It's a horror concept that's been explored many times, and I didn't think this movie did anything especially new with it.

I did like the setting, and I don't think it's a bad movie. It just wasn't the kind of Mummy film I was hoping for.
