Summary — I didn’t like most of Barry season 3 episode 1 because it felt grim and depressing, with even successful characters seeming compromised or hollow. Still, the episode picked up near the end and gave me enough reason to watch another one.
I didn’t like most of Barry season 3 episode 1. It wasn’t that the episode felt slow — it was more that it was grim and depressing to watch, and the tone made it hard to enjoy.
Even the characters who seemed to be finding success were portrayed like they had sold out or turned into worse versions of themselves, so there wasn’t much relief from the bleakness. The only character who seemed like he was kind of doing alright was NoHo Hank’s boyfriend, Cristobal, and even he had just lost all of his friends.
That said, the episode did pick up near the end, and there was enough there to make me want to watch another episode. Not a strong start for me, but not enough to stop watching either.
